Bohol earthquake felt in some areas in Cebu this morning.
The Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported a 4.8 magnitude earthquake which epicenter is located in the south of Bohol province, the town of Buenavista in particular at 9:47 in the morning today.
The earthquake happened two hours after a 7.7 magnitudequake hit Papua New Guinea. Phivolcs however was quick to announce a “No
tsunami threat” in the surrounding areas or in the Philippines.
In Cebu City, those in the high rise buildings felt the
tremor which lasted about 3 to 4 seconds.
Cebu Provincial Governor Hilario Davide III declared no workin the afternoon for Capitol employees to give time for them to check on their
families.
“A skeletal force was ordered to stay in the offices and
check all buildings for possible damages,” according to Davide’s announcement.
The tremor was felt also in the cities of Lapulapu, Mandaue,
Danao and Bogo City.
Municipal employees of southwestern town of Asturias went
down from the building calmly. Municipal
information officer Mark Supatan said it was only last week that they joined
the earthquake drills.

Other northern towns did not feel the tremor according to
Nino Ybanez, information officer of San Remigio and Giles Villamor, IO of
Medellin.
In the island of Camotes, Poro municipality felt the tremor
also prompting municipal employees to vacate the building for a few minutes,
according to IO Abel Garciano.

However as of press time, Ethel Natera, Cebu PIO said they
have not received any reports of any untoward incident due to the quake.
Barely two years ago, a 7.2 magnitude quake crippled
