DOH-7 holds free deworming in public schools and barangay health centers

CEBU CITY --- The Department of HealthRegion 7 (DOH-7) will hold deworming activities in public schools and barangay health centers for the entire month of July.

Children ages 1-18 years old can avail of the free deworming tablets for free.

Dr. Al Patrick Alajas, Medical Officer III of DOH-VII explains that children are their targets because they are constantly exposed and are still developing thus are more vulnerable.

He also mentioned that 67 percent of children all over the country were infected with worms before they launched the deworming program.

"De worming is advisable every six months that is why we are doing it twice a year," Alajas said

As of DOH’s study in 2015, they managed to bring the numbers down to 26 percent.

DOH aims to reach to less than 20% prevalence by 2020 with Central Visayasalmost reaching the goal at 21%.

DOH-7 is targeting to deworm 3,193,575 children from 1-18 years old. They dewormed more than half of their target last January 2017 at 1,923,349 children.

The schedules of the deworming activities depend on each public school. If ever some children missed the opportunity, their parents can still approach barangay health centers to avail for the deworming tablet.

Among the health issues caused by worm infection is poor performance in class, nutrition deficiency, anemia, lowered immunity, and in the worst cases, death.

CEBU CITY, May 30 (PIA) –  Mga gikinanan lakip sa mga disiplinahon sa bag-ong naumol nga hiniusang kasabutan alang sa pagsulbad sa problema sa libud suroy ug ubang problemadong kabatan-onan.

Sa usa ka “Covenant”  nga gipirmahan sa kabin 20 ka mga non government ug government organizations, nalatid didto nga apilon ang pagdisiplina sa mga ginikanan sa hugot nga pagpatuman unya sa mga balaod nga nagtan-aw sa kahapsay sa komunidad og kaugmaon sa mga batan-on.

Matod ni Police Inspector Arieza Otida, ang hepe sa Family Gender Juvenile Section (FGJS) sa Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), nga aduna na unyay binuwan nga pagpang ronda sa nagkalain laing dapit batok sa mga libud suroy.

Kini bisan pa man wala pa muluwat ang panggamhanan, nga buhion sa makausa pa ang balaod kabahin sa curfew.

Kining maong “Covenant” nga alang sa ginganlan og “Operation Gugma”  pinirmahan sa mga civic organizations og mga ahensya sa gobyerno naglatid sa mga nagkalaing laing serbisyo nga ehatag alang sa 

katuyuan nga masulbad ang maong mga issues sa kabatan-onan.

Nasabutan usab sa maong Covenant nga aduna nay “shelter” o  kasamtangang kapunduhan sa mga ma rescue unya sa pagpang ronda.  Kini mao ang nakabalda sa mga operasyon sa kapolisan tungod kay wala silay kapondohan sa mga minors nga ma rescue.

Gibahin ug tulo ka matang sa serbisyo ang anaa sa maong Covenant.

Naglakip didto ang kabahin sa Prevention  (Paglikay), Intervention and Diversion ug ang Reintegration (Pagbalik sa komunidad).

Ang aspeto sa “shelter” o kapuy-an, kapundohan, anaa mahimutang tunga tunga sa Intervention o Diversion. 

Dinhi ebutang sila sa theraphy, education sessions, aron sila maayo sa panghuna huna og makabaton og saktong panglantaw sa kinabuhi.

Aduna usab lecture on “Responsible Parenting” alang sa kadtong ma rescue sa curfe bisan sa Intervention pa lang daan nga aspeto.

Sumala sa kasabutan, ang mga ma rescue dad-on una sa Parian Drop in Center para sa evaluation.

Mi commit ang Cebu City Task Force on Street Children nga makapasilong sila og 35 ka mga na rescue og ang Philippine Teen Challenge napulo ka mga CICL .

Ang Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) sa rehiyon og sa dakbayan muabaga sa pagkaon og ubang mga panginahanglan.

Ang ubang mga  civic groups sama sa Rotaracts, Zonta Cliub , Lions International, Dilaab Movement, DoN Bosco Boys Home, Juvenile Justice Welfare Council, Legal Alternatives for Women magmugna unya og mga action para maayo sila og ang ilang pamilya.

Ang CCPO mu detail og tulo ka mga police matag adlaw sa duha ka mga shelters ug ang Cebu Prosecutors Office maoy muabag sa legal nga concerns sa mga bata.

Hiniusang  programa alang sa issue sa mga libud suroy og mga kabatan-onang nahisalaag, pandayon sa mga nagkalain laing grupo sa komunidad.

Gipanguluhan sa Womens and Protection Desk- Family Gender Juvenile Services (WPD-FGJS) sa Cebu City Police Office(CCPO), kapin sa 20 ka mga grupo ang milingkod aron pagtuki sa pagsulbad sa maong problema.

Ang problema sa mga libud suroy, ang nag una nga gitutukan sa mga police tungod kay matod pa sa hepe sa WPD-FGJS PI Arieza Otida, tuburan kini sa mga krimen sa komunidad.

“Kasagaran aning mga libud-suroy, adunay problema sa pamilya, og kani sila gamiton sa mga bating element sa pagbuhat og krimen sama sa pangawat,” matod ni Otida.

Matod niya ang maong problema nagtuyok tuyok o way kasulbaran tungod kay human sa pagbuhat sa kapolisan og rescue operation, mabalik raman gihapon ang mga batan-on sa kadalanan.

Si Otida nagkanayon nga ang mga civic organizations adunay mga programa para sa kabatan onan apan naglahi lahi kini o walay paagi nga ma sustener.

Gisugyot sa kapolisan ang pagbuhat og usa ka Shelter diin mapahimutang dire ang mga na rescue og dinhi mahitabo ang edukasyon og dibersyon apil napod ang mga programa diin mabalik sila pag usab sa normal nga panginabuhi sa komunidad.

“Dili namo makaya ang maong problema og nanginahanglan mi sa inyong tabang,” matod sa kasamtangang hepe sa CCPO nga si PSSUPT Benjamin Santos.

Nagkasinabot ang mga mitambong nga magtigom pag usab sunod buwan aron sa pag panday sa maong programa nga tutok lamang niini nga issue.

Nasayran nga adunay mga 400 kapin ka mga libud suroy ang anaa karon sa dakbayan sa Sugbo.

Ang mga mitambong sa tigom mao ang Zonta Club of Cebu, Rotary of Cebu, LIONS Club International, Share a Child Movement, Children of Cebu, SOS, Dilaab Foundation, Community Scout Center for the Youth, Cebu City Task Force for Street Children, Department of Social Welfare and Services, Philippine Information Agency, Childrens Legal Bureau, City Prosecutors Office, Legal Alternatives for Women  og ang 11 ka mga Police Stations sa CCPO.
