Ang Public Information Office (PIO) sa Dakbayan sa Danao gitan-aw nga sulundon sa uban nga mga PIOs sa lalawigan sa Sugbo. 

Sa labing unang higayon nasaksihan sa mga membro sa Cebu Association of City and Municipal Public Information Officers (CAOCAMPIO) ang pagpadagan sa PIO sa Danao City atol sa binulan nga tigum sa organisasyon.

Ang kasamtangang PIO sa Danao, si Mitchelle Mondigo  nga mao usab ang presidente sa CAOCAMPIO, mapasigarbohong mipakita sa pagmugna ug naabot na sa iyang opisina nga adunay gitawag nga Public Information Associates (PIAS).

Ang mag PIAS, usa a network sa magsusulat ug tigpamaba gikan sa mga nagkalain-laing mga departamento sa lokal ug nasyonal nga anaa sa dakbayan. 

Sa ilang panagtigom sa mga PIAS, muhatag kini sila og tagsa tagsa ka mga taho, mga problema ug mga kadaugan sa  matag opisina sa ilang mga programa ug mga serbisyo.

First LGBT Pride Month gipahigayon sa Mandaue City

 Kapin sa 3,000 ka mga membro ug supporters sa lesbians, bisexuals,  gays ug transvestites (LGBT) ang misalmot sa labing unang Pride March nga gipahigayon sa dakbayan sa Mandaue.

Si Atty. Regal Oliva, ang City Treasuer sa Mandaue City, nagkanayon nga misalmot ang kapin sa tres mil ka mga membro sa ug supporters sa nagkalain laing mga grupo sa LGBTs sa lalawigan sa Sugbo alang sa Pride March.

Matod ni Oliva, nga mao usab ang LGBT Champion sa dakbayan, nga mapasigarbohon nga mipaso ug mipakita sa ilang mga nagkadaiyang mga de kolor ngga costumes ang mga misalmot.

“We marched happy and proud for the world to know that we deserve our place in the community,” matod ni Oliva.

Si Atty. Elaine Bathan, ang chief of staff sa Mandaue City, nagkanayon sa iyang mensahe nga abli ang dakbayan ug hingusganon kining mudisiplina sa mga establisimento nga dili muhatag og makiangayon nga pagtagad sa mga LGBTs.

“The city of Mandaue is the first to pass the ordinance that everyone is equal regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression (SOGIE) and we will continue to enforce that,” matod ni Bathan.

“What is happening right now was once a dream, there were conflicts  among LGBT groups but now we are one, I hope this will be sustained,” matod ni Maki Gingoyon, Miss Gay 2017 Mandaue.

Ang Mactan Isla ang labing una sa mga gipangayuan og tabang nga mas mapanindot ang maong publikong kolehiyo.

“We made sure that the kitchen and dining area will already be usable when classes start,” matod ni Aloyan.

Cebu LGUs open up for mental health

The Province of Cebu once again took a bolder step in becoming the first ever Province to have embraced the importance of mental health, a seemingly unpopular, stigmatic area of human issues.

This after a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed this week between Cebu province, 28 southern LGUs and the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA-Cebu) for the conduct of Community Based Mental Health Program.

The signing was led no less by Cebu Provincial Governor Hilario Davide III and Dr. Glenda Basubas, president of PMHA-Cebu.

There were also officials from the Department of Health and the 28 southern municipalities.

PMHA will soon reach out also to the northern municipalities and cities of the province.

The awareness and understanding of mental health is slowly gaining among Filipinos with the different campaigns led by the government and non government organizations.

According to PMHA, a person's tendency is to deny the existence and his or her sorroundings are unaware of the existence of a mental issue, much more a disorder.

According to mental health statistics,

• Mental health problems are one of the main causes of the overall disease burden worldwide.
• Mental health and behavioural problems (e.g. depression, anxiety and drug use) are reported to be the primary drivers of disability worldwide, causing over 40 million years of disability in 20 to 29-year-olds.
• Major depression is thought to be the second leading cause of disability worldwide and a major contributor to the burden of suicide and ischemic heart disease.³
• It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem

Six Cebu LGUs with SMART Infocast

There are now six  local government units in Cebu which have boosted communication to public by using the infocast system.

As of press time, LGUs Cebu City, Carcar City, Bogo City,  San Remigio, and Dumanjug and Cebu Province have a full blast infocast system which enable them to announce weather, traffic and events advisories to their constituents.

The system dubbed as Smart Infocast is a text message broadcast solution by PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications.  And this was availed by the LGUs for free.

Lolito Bontigao Jr., Dumanjug Public Information Officer said the infocast system had extremely 

helped in their disaster preparedness efforts.

“Announcements reached to our farthest barangays where there is signal,” Bontigao said.

Dumanjug town receives a maximum of P10,000 worth of load each month to cover Smart and Talk n Text subscribers.

The program allows the sending of free text broadcasts and enables registered subscribers to connect with other Infocast members through a common, unique access code, making it an effective emergency communications solution. Crucial information can be sent to all Infocast subscribers, including the municipality and barangay’s disaster risk reduction and management teams.

San Remigio Information Officer Nino Wilo Ybanez, said the infocasts is really a big help in the local announcements of advisories.

“We have one of the busiest port in Cebu and announcement of trips schedules and suspension, class suspensions too are received immediately by our constituents,” Ybanez said.

San Rmigio is also given P10,000 load per month which covers more than a thousand subscribers.

Smart Communications had already reached out to several municipalities and cities in the province including schools, communities and even parishes, to improve the flow of information. (fcc/PIA7-Cebu)
