Zonta Club of Cebu II says NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!

A total of 25 entries for the Photo Competition have been chosen to be the finalist from more than a hundred photos submitted for the Musings On Women Photography Contest. Over a hundred artists from all over the country will also hold a selling exhibit featuring paintings that depict the roles of women in society today.

"Musings on Women," a project of Zonta Club of Cebu II, is intended to pay homage to women from all walks of life. The exhibit features works of Cebuano photographers and artists showcasing women in the various roles that they play in society.

"From over a hundred entries, we have narrowed them to twenty five. It was a tough and difficult selection process by the Screening Committee. I am awed at how talented our photo enthusiasts are and we hope that through pictures, we can send a strong message on how essential the roles of women in society are and how equality among gender can enhance community building," says Archt. Filna Espina, Chairperson of the Musings on Women Photo Competition.

"Musings on Women" is one of the activities of Abay sa Kahayag's 18-Day of Activism against gender based violence. "Abay sa Kahayag" is a long term partnership with the City of Mandaue to advance the welfare of women and children against violence and abuse.

The painting exhibit is participated by premier artists from Aninaw Art Collective, Aroma Art Atilier, Bohol Artists Collective, Cebu Artists Inc, Mugna and Pintal.

The artworks on display will be for sale proceeds of which will be used to finance the various projects of Zonta II.

"I am calling on everyone to support our cause by buying a painting. We desperately need funding support to fulfill our mission," Zonta Club of Cebu II President Marilou Canizares.

"Musings on Women" will have an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. on November 24 at the Ayala Activity Center.

It will stay there until November 26, and will move to the 2nd Level of the mall's New Wing (near Apple Store) on November 27 to December 2.

People who view the exhibit shall be able to choose through ballots the best photo in the PEOPLE'S CHOICE, an adjunct category to the official judging criteria.

Winners of the photo contest shall be announced and awarded on Dec. 5 after the Symposium on "Redefining the Meaning of Gender" at Bai Hotel in Mandaue City.

Naglambigit ang maong mga PEKENG BALITA sa bag-ohay ang nga nahitabo nga dakong pagdahili sa Yuta diin pipila ka mga kinabuhi ang nakalas. 

Ang mga PEKENG BALITA nga gitataw mao ang mga posts kabahin sa "paglihoksayutasa Barangay Tinaan",  "ang paglunop sa Naga tungod sa tubig nga dili makontrol", ug ang "dakong liki sa Magdook".

Two long weekends in November 2018

Time to sched more bonding time with family and friends as Filipinos are set to enjoy two long weekends in November this year. 

All Saints (November 1) and All Souls Days (November 2) were declared Special Non Working Holidays.  So its four straight days for the first weekend of November. 

And for the last weekend, before the Christmas Month, November 30, Andres Bonifacio Day, also falls on a Friday!

All these holidays are included in the official declaration issued last year, the Presidential Proclamation 269.

Aduna nay mobile application nga gilusad ang ang Social Security System (SSS) alang sa mga miembro. 

Mamahimo na nga matan-aw sa usa ka miembro ang iyang mga records mismo sa iyang cellular phone pinaagi sa mobile app nga aktibo na sa pagkakaron. 

Matod ni SSS President ug Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Dooc, ang maong mobile app gilusad aron mas sayon ra sa  mga miembro nga matan-aw ang iyang mga impormasyon pinaagi sa mga smartphone ug mga tablets.Og sila dili na kinahanglan nga muadto mismo sa buhatan sa SSS.

“Based on recent studies, smartphone usage in the Philippines will increase by 70 percent this year. In that regard, we are taking advantage of this opportunity by creating this SSS Mobile App so that members can easily access SSS information and services right at their fingertips,” matod ni Dooc.

Libre lang ang SSS Mobile App nga mamahimo kining e download sa mga smartphones ug mga tablet nga nagdagan sa Android 4.4 Kitkat o mas taas nga operating system ug ingon man sa IOS 8.0 o mas taas nga bersyon.

Sa mga miembro nga wala pay My.SSS account yet kinahanglan nga mubuhat og account ug mu “register” pinaagi sa nga naa sa sidebar.

 

“They should be connected to the internet through mobile data or WIFI connection before using the SSS Mobile App. However, data charges may apply depending on their internet service provider or data usage plan,” dugang ni Dooc.

“As you can see, the features of the SSS Mobile App is almost the same with the Text-SSS facility,” Dooc said.

Baratong housing units sa Mandaue City alang sa pipila ka mga informal settlers

Selected informal settlers in Mandaue City can avail of housing units for as low as P600 to P1,000 a month under the  low-rise joint housing project between National Housing Authority (NHA) and the Mandaue City government.

This was the good news presented by NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr., to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte during the latter’s visit in Mandaue City for its 49th Charter Anniversary. 

Escalada said the three five-storey buildings can house 180 informal settlers in Barangay Looc by June of 2020.

Occupants on the first floor will pay P1,000 per  month, P900 for 2nd floor, P800 for 3rd floor, P700 for the 4th floor, and P600 for the 5th floor units. 

The term is payable in 30 years, Escalada said.

Duterte, in an earlier conversation with Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing, also assured joint housing projects for city hall employees and members of the police and Philippine Army. 

In his speech, the President lauded the city government for being a partner in the national government’s thrust in providing a liveable place for its constituents. 

Duterte said  he hopes that the  local government will continue to enjoin the  people to support the administration’s thrust to provide a comfortable life for all.

“We cannot overcome such scourges alone, and we need everyone’s help in ridding our nation of these ills that have long hampered our development as a nation,” Duterte said.

He said that through solidarity and cooperation, the government can make the country’s neighborhoods and communities safer and more secure.

Duterte also asked the local government units to continue supporting the government in the fight against drugs and corruption.

“Together, let us succeed in our collective aspiration to attain a better life and brighter future for our countrymen,” he said.

This is the President's second visit in Cebu for the month of August and the sixth for this year. 

Cebu City cops undergoes Media Relations

Police front liners of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) underwent Media Relations Workshop recently to effectively carry out their mandate of bringing the police closer to the community.

In the hope of countering the bad news that is affecting the morale and reputation of the members of the police force, CCPO police community relations and desk officers from Police Stations 1-11,  underwent a day seminar conducted by the Philippine Information Agency- Cebu.

Police Chief Inspector Keith Allen Andaya, Chief PCR Cebu in his welcome remarks said the police still has a long way to go when it comes to writing and reaching out to the media.

“We must learn how to write press releases properly and understand how the media works,” Andaya said.

 The participants were first told on the importance of communicating law enforcement as a profession and as an advocacy.

It is followed with determining what’s worth writing and reporting in the police station followed by a discussion on the different modes of “storytelling”.

These include Press Releases for Print and Broadcast, Social Media, Conduct of a Press Conference and Conduct of an Event.

They underwent a workshop on writing press releases and had an actual reporting for broadcast using the day’s event as topic.

The second half of the day, the participants were then made to understand the nature of the media and how unique Cebu media is from the rest of  the country.

It ended with tips on how to build and maintain the relationship between media and the police.

PO1 Emelita Tamosa of Police Station 6 said she learned that it is necessary to have a crisis communication conference prior to the conduct of an operation to foresee any negative result.

“It is also necessary to have details prepared in order to communicate it properly and accurately,” Tamosa said.

CCPO is currently in hot water by the media after one of their colleagues got killed for doing a surveillance. 

The activity also formed part of the culmination of the Police Community Relations (PCR) Month.
